Teaching Style

I love teaching according to the students needs and interests. I think of all fundamentals in music as crucial and include those in my teaching no matter the path we take. I'm open to students that create compositions, or just want to learn how to read notes, play in a band, and much more!

Felicity

Felicity recently graduated from the Wheaton College Conservatory in Illinois and is a lover of all things music. She began singing in the children's choir in church at a young age and devoted her time to chorus and band through high school. She earned a Bachelor's of Music Education with a focus in voice and secondary instrument of flute at Wheaton College, where she enjoyed participating in the opera, starting a barbershop ensemble, honors conducting for the Men's Glee Club and Women's Chorale, composing for student projects, and presenting several recitals. Lea

Lea Cooney is a percussionist recently graduated from Salem State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Minor in Psychology. Prior to Salem State, she attended Middlesex Community College and received her Associate’s Degree in Music Studies. Through Salem State, she has received awards such as the Creativity Award for Music, Presidential Arts Scholarship, and Reading Community Singers Scholarship, where she played drum set with the choir and performed her own pieces as well.

Throughout middle school and high school, Cooney was in the Strings Attached Orchestra, where she played violin and picked up the cello her senior year. She attended multiple events with the orchestra throughout her high school experience.

During high school is when she decided to try out the drums because of how fascinated she was by the sound of them. A lot of music Cooney listened to, including pop punk and classic rock, were very heavy with drums and she wanted to be able to play like those drummers. She went to take drum lessons for six years up until she auditioned for the music program at Salem.

Upon entering college, she became familiar with a few more instruments- such as piano, acoustic guitar, tabla, timpani and marimba. In recent months, Cooney has also picked up electric bass and plays in the band Glad Valley as the bassist. She also is the drummer for another current music project and will occasionally play percussion for the Salem State Community Band.

Ms. Cooney’s professional goal is to become a music teacher in either an elementary school setting or with children one on one. Although she is pursuing a degree in Education, she would also be interested in working with children as a Music Therapist. Cooney has years of experience with young children from infants to fifth grade. She has worked in childcare and also have participated in music education internships in public schools. Her most recent teaching job was teaching drum lessons at Guitar Center.

Not only did he realize he loved being a student of music, but his dream is to be a musical mentor to others on their journey. We are happy to say that Jack has been “living the dream” for 13 years and has taught hundreds of students!

Sabreena

Sabreena's love of music began as a child as she watched her grandmother playing hymns in church. She began taking lessons at four years old, and after many lessons and a lot of practice, she was thrilled to finally be able to play a duet in church with her grandmother. Since then, her love for music has only grown.

As she grew older, Sabreena became more involved in the church music ministry. She joined the church choir and vocal groups, but she has never lost her love for the piano. She is now the head pianist and assistant choir director in her church, and she helps to coordinate the special music in the church. She considers it a great privilege to be able to use her love of music in worship.

Sabreena studied education in college, and in 2016 she graduated from Hyles Anderson College in Crown Point, IN, with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education. She has since combined her love for both teaching and music by becoming a piano teacher in her local area, and she also provides lessons to children in her church. As a teacher, Sabreena strives to nurture a love for music in her students. She encourages curiosity in music, learning at your own pace, and never giving up on your dreams.
